A quick step by step walkthrough for people who wish to become a PHV driver in Singapore; hope it helps you :)
Positive Mentality of a Private Hire Driver:
#1 Priority – Not to injure your own body
#2 Priority – Not to injure other human beings (both pedestrians & passengers included)
• When something happens or when you make a mistake while driving, like a near-accident, or going the wrong route, the important thing is to maintain a positive mentality by telling yourself that, if you didn’t injure your own body, you didn’t injure other human beings, it’s all good.
*Always drive carefully to avoid injuries to your passengers ( especially when there are young children in your car :)
#3 Not to damage any property not belonging to you (other people’s cars, public property etc.) that will incur compensation
#4 Try not to damage own car (accidentally)
#5 Try not to get fined (by violating traffic rules or private hire rules)
• If you only damaged your own car (accidents with road kerbs etc.) or get fined (by violating traffic rules or private hire rules), these are monetary issues that you can comfort / console yourself, or self-motivate by telling yourself that, at least you didn’t injure yourself or other human beings or any property not belonging to you, that may incur even greater financial / monetary losses.
Because if you damaged any property not belonging to you (other people’s cars, public property etc), it will incur compensation, to the other party.
• Lastly, the most important mentality to have, is to try to take things easy, and maintain a positive spirit/attitude/mood everyday :)
#6 Making good bucks (best $$$ for your time) –
Don’t get too worried / stressed out thinking about meeting your daily rides / earnings target
It’s okay sometimes to make less than what your daily target is, and go home with less earnings
#7 App Ratings / Acceptance Rate –
Try not to be too bothered because this is not something that you can 100% control
Sometimes, even if you have done your best to provide the best customer service that you can, the passenger may still give a non-perfect rating, which there is nothing that you can do about
Hence, just take things easy and move on :)
Even for acceptance rate, sometimes one may mis-click on a booking that one do not wish to accept or something may crop up (family matters etc.) and in turn, you may need to cancel the ride / booking.
But no worries, for most ride hailing apps, the acceptance rate will recover / restore itself after a while, depending on which APP you are using :)
#8 Waiting for customer (customer no show penalty fee) –
Do not be bothered by customers that make you wait; just think of the waiting fee that you will receive :)
#9 Cleanup fee –
For passengers that vomit/spill drinks in your car, try not to be too bothered by the clean up fees if you are unable to get/contact the passenger to pay you
Just clean up the car yourself like I always do (with cloth, water & surface cleaners such as Dettol, CIF, JIF, Magiclean. Mr. Muscle etc ), then spray air refreshener on it and it should be fine :)
