Guide - Private Hire (PHV) driving strategies *Updated 10 Nov 2024
A quick step by step walkthrough for people who wish to become a PHV driver in Singapore; hope it helps you :)
• These are some PHV driving strategies that you may consider, including but not limited to:
• Camping/Circling in one area, west/east/north/south (when you are new and starting out as a PHV driver, slowly familiarizing yourself with one area/region first)
Circling/waiting around areas near shopping malls etc.
• Going for bookings that will utilize the expressways instead of neighbourhood lanes/routes to reduce waiting time at traffic lights
• Driving outwards from central region, hence choosing bookings with the mentality/strategy that goes outwards from central region
Then picking up bookings that goes back inwards into the central region and repeat
• Preferred waiting locations, driving to specific locations, to wait for bookings and rest at the same time
Picking up bookings at specific places/locations (airport etc), then driving the customer to the location and going back to the specific location (airport etc) to wait for new customer
• Going for small (<$12) / large (>$25) bookings during peak hours
During peak hours, small size bookings with high demand surcharge may allow you to stay in the high demand surcharge areas, having to spend less time to find new bookings (in other areas) with similar surcharge and earn more money.
Alternatively, you may choose large size bookings and end up with destinations in areas that are non-high demand hotspots and you may need to spend more time to find new bookings and the surcharge may not be as high as the high demand hotspots.
*At the end of the day, personally, I would just pick any bookings, regardless of small or large, as long as it comes with a high demand surcharge pricing during peak hours
